European Species Conservation Starter Kit (under development)
The European Species Conservation Starter Kit is a comprehensive and dynamic resource designed to equip European zoos and aquaria with the essential tools and guidance needed to enhance their efforts in protecting and conserving native species. Developed specifically with the needs of European zoos in mind, the Starter Kit offers practical insights, tailored strategies, and resources to empower zoos and aquaria, no matter where they are in their conservation journey.
The kit provides a step-by-step guide to help navigate the complexities of species conservation, covering key areas such as identifying priority species, developing effective conservation strategies, planning and implementing projects, engaging stakeholders, and building strong partnerships. Additionally, it includes valuable resources on fundraising and grant opportunities, education and outreach programs, and monitoring and evaluating conservation efforts.
This Starter Kit is the result of a collective effort to encourage collaboration within the zoo and aquaria community. It acknowledges that zoos and aquaria across Europe face unique challenges, and aims to address these with practical, customized solutions.
We welcome feedback to ensure the Starter Kit meets the evolving needs of zoos. If you have suggestions for additional content, insights on how to tailor the guide for zoos just starting their conservation work, or thoughts on specific challenges, please contact us at andrea@zoo.hr .
